Cycling for survivors of child sexual abuse

Hello everyone, I am Vaike and a survivor of CSA. I am looking for support in publishing the worldwide known self-help book and workbook Breaking Free by Kay Toon and Carolyn Ainscough in Estonian to enable survivors to get information in their native language, as well as to start designing services for survivors. I have translated the books already and need to ensure funds for publishing.

Like many others, I recognised that I am a survivor only as an adult and this was a total shock. The more so because of my cultural background. There had been no awareness of sexual violence, so I could not even think that children could get hurt in this way. My native country Estonia had just regained freedom and the opportunities to look for knowledge had widened. I was lucky to have met someone to ask for help, so I was introduced to the word survivor and taken to the Waterstones in London in January 2005. From the shelf full of various books, I picked the Breaking Free. Help for Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse by Kay Toon and Carolyn Ainscough. Starting to read, I realised that there are many others who would need access to the information and I decided to translate it into Estonian. In April 2006 all 3000 copies were given away for free as an eyeopener. Kay Toon, the author gave lectures during the book launches and interviews. Over the past 16 years, a lot has changed for the better, as police have had training as well as other professionals. However, based on my own experiences and many others that had got the original book, the services to support survivors still need to be designed. I have now translated the newest, updated editions of the Breaking Free, both book and workbook into Estonian.

I cycled in 2020 in all parts of the UK to raise awareness of CSA effects on adult life and to draw attention to this subject, recovering from trauma. Cycling helped me to improve my mental health and meet with other survivors along the way. Throughout the journey people expressed the opinion that it is a very essential topic. This encouraged me to take another leap and plan another cycling journey. This is my second chance to challenge myself by cycling across the UK. This gave me an idea to add up all the mileage and fundraise a pound per mile.

Fundraising for £/€ per mile calculation:
2020 - 2700mi
2022 - 1239mi
Total - 3929£

The total cost for publishing the Breaking Free. Help for Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse in Estonian is over 12 500€.

The money raised will be strictly used for publishing the Breaking Free book and workbook. Your support is vital for every child sexual abuse survivor.
