Update!!! As you will have seen at Southampton (A) we have had the flag made, and now we have something else planned to make another special tribute to the great man!

This man requires no introduction to many a Wrexham fan…. Unfortunately Joey passed away recently and as a group of supporters both young and old we would like to make a flag that can be used over and over in RESPECT of the man who epitomises everything our club Is about.

Joey Jones – A True Wrexham Hero

When you talk about Wrexham legends, Joey Jones is one of the first names that comes to mind. He wasn’t just a player—he was the heartbeat of the club, the kind of guy who left everything out on the pitch every single time he pulled on the shirt.

Born in Llandudno, Joey came through the ranks at Wrexham and made his debut in 1971. From the start, fans knew he was something special. He played with passion, grit, and a bit of fire—exactly the kind of player the supporters love. He didn’t just defend; he battled. And whether it was a cup run or a midweek league scrap, Joey gave it 110%.

His talent took him to bigger stages, most famously to Liverpool, where he won the European Cup in 1977. But even then, he never forgot where he came from. That famous banner—“Joey Ate the Frogs’ Legs, Made the Swiss Roll, Now He’s Munching Gladbach”—says it all. He was a cult hero wherever he went, but Wrexham was always home.

Joey returned to the Racecourse more than once, making over 350 appearances for the club. Every time he came back, it felt right—like he belonged here. And even after his playing days, he stuck around, coaching the next generation and staying involved behind the scenes. His love for the club has never faded.

On top of that, he earned 72 caps for Wales, playing with the same fire and pride he showed in every club match. He was never the flashiest, but he was always reliable, always ready to give everything for the team.

Joey Jones isn’t just part of Wrexham’s history—he is Wrexham. Tough, loyal, proud, and passionate. A true club legend, and one of the finest to ever wear the red.
