Tchaikovsky’s Third Symphony holds a unique place in the composer’s output. It neither wrestles with the classical structure as his first two symphonies do, nor does it yet reflect the full individuality of his later symphonies. Instead, it paints a picture of the Russian coming into his own—it’s a work of exuberance and growing confidence. Throughout the symphony, listeners are treated to Tchaikovsky’s signature pathos, moments of triumph, and early hints of the orchestral magic that would later define his ballets.

Orchestra Lagrandt is an ambitious ensemble devoted to performing Romantic and early Modern music using the instruments and performance practices of the composers’ own time. Following our debut with Schubert’s Great Symphony in C major, we now invite you to join us as we announce more exciting programming for the 2025-26 season. As a young ensemble, we rely on the support of our community to grow. Donations help us cover the costs of venue rental, rehearsal space, publicity, and the administrative steps toward becoming a Dutch Government-recognized foundation.
