> Hello funders!
I am raising money for the funeral and travel expenses for my son, Solomon Palmer. A little background on Solomon and why we desperately need your support.
On January 17, 2020, my son, Solomon Palmer suffered a stroke that severely impacted the left side of his brain. As is turns out, my son had something called Diabetic Ketoacidosis and went into diabetic shock; or a diabetic coma. At the time, we were unaware that Solomon developed this chronic illness. According to his team of doctors at Mass General Hospital, the onset of Solomon’s Type 2 Diabetes was very rare. His doctors shared with me that in many cases, when children or young adults develop diabetes, there is usually a progression of symptoms or ailments that lead people to believe that they have diabetes or developing diabetes. This was not the case for my son. The onset of his condition, Diabetic Ketoacidosis, was rare, sudden, rapid, and unexpected.
Once his blood sugars were under control, Solomon started having almost daily MRIs; so that the doctors could have an in-depth look at his brain. Through multiple MRIs and other types of scans, the doctors discovered that Solomon had a rare infection called Rhinocerebral Mucormycosis. This form of Mucour has a mortality rate of 25 - 85%, depending on where the fungus is located. Unfortunately, for my Solomon, the Mucor infection was located in many parts of his brain. This particular form of Mucour was very aggressive and invasive and it was rapidly attacking many parts of my son’s brain. The doctors thought it best not to operate because some of the Mucour infection was located extremely close to a carotid artery and they feared that he would bleed out on the operating table. In fact, the doctors have since confirmed that Solomon’s initial stroke was due to the Rhinocerebral Mucormycosis, not the Diabetic Ketoacidosis.
The doctors at Mass General started Solomon on a series of antibiotics and anti-fungal medications to combat the Mucour bacteria. Sadly, the medications did not attack the Mucour as quickly as we had hoped and this horrible bacteria caused my son’s brain to swell and swell. I have spoken with teams of doctors from Neurology, Ear, Nose, and Throat, Hematology, etc., and I really do believe that they did their very best to save my son’s life. My beloved King Solomon passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at the age of sixteen.
Solomon loved to play video games and was an avid sportsman and sports fan. He possessed a love for basketball, football and soccer. He enjoyed reading the Diary of a Whimpy Kid series and watching PewDiePie. King Solomon loved listening to many genres of music, but rap and hip hop were his favorites. Although we have been living in Cambridge, Ma. since 2014, my King Solomon was H-TOWN for life!
Please help bring Solomon home to Houston by contributing to his GoFundMe page. Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all for your prayers, kind thoughts and well wishes.
Sincerely,
Tamela Palmer
