Melissa's story
She beat cancer once and she's at it again. Melissa is a wife and a mom. She is a daughter, my sister, aunt and friend. She loves life and loves laughing! Although this is no laughing matter. About 9 months ago Melissa started to have severe back pain. She went to the doctor for her first of many MRI and CT scans. They referred her on to an oncologist who keep assuring her she had a broken sacrum and she needed time to heal. After numerous trips to the ER for the pain and realizing day by day she was getting worse and the fact she was for the most part bed ridden without the ability to sit or walk without the assistance of a walker she decided to head down to MD Anderson in Houston which is the best place in the country to treat this rare sacrum cancer. After running more tests they did say this is not a broken sacrum this is a large tumor. So far the game plan is to currently give her 4 rounds of "Super Chemo" where she will be hospitalized off and on for around 90 days. In hopes it will shrink the tumor enough to do an extremely dangerous surgery to remove ALL of the tumor and surrounding areas. Then after that she will have 12 more weeks of chemo. They are predicting her stay in Houston to be up to a year.
The family has a lot to worry about at this time. I would like to help with the burden of all these expenses such as her husband and kids traveling back and forth, and other things such as required equipment needed to take care of her, and many other unexpected expenses.
Whatever you can give we would be greatful for. Melissa is always the first to help others in their times of need. We are extremely thankful for all the love and support that everyone has shown, and continues to show, in this difficult time.
