Feel Alive, Help Others Survive!

Welcome, to the Feel Alive, Help Others Survive Go Fund Me Page.

My Name is Megan Gonda and I spent 13 months living in Afghanistan from 2007 through 2008.  During my time there, I developed close relationships with local Afghani citizens.  I left the country with a deep desire to one day return in support of greater efforts to improve the quality of life and educational oppotunities for women and children.

Fast forward to today, I am now a family mentor to a family from Kabul, Afghanistan who were accepted into the U.S. as refugees 6 months ago through a non- profit organization.  The father worked as a Civil Engineer in Kabul, Afghanistan as hired by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers to oversee the engineering for projects such as the contruction of a Waste Management Facility, Fire Station, and Fuel Tank Station.

Since his arrival in the U.S. he has attended classes at the Houston Community College to obtain certificates that will bridge the gap between the credentials he has brought with him from Afghanistan, to meet the standards required in the U.S. so that he may continue his 10 years of work experience in the field of Civil Engineering.  He has accepted a position at the Wal-Mart near his home in south central Houston so that he may have some income to provide for his family while he is attending college.  Most of his income goes towards the family's $1,100 per month rent for their 3bdrm apartment.

The family has 5 children.  All but the youngest are attending school.  The mother stays at home with her youngest son during the day and attends English classes weekly.

Funds raised by this campaign will be used to help the family get a car so that teh father may be able to accept a position outside of the Houston Metro City Limits, as he is currently bound by the location limits of public transportaion, and has missed out on job opportunities for this very reason.

The family also needs a car to help with transporting the children, groceries, and to expedite their travels between school, and work so they may have a little time in between to be together as a family in their new environment.

I have spent time with the family on several occasions and will continue to visit with them weekly.  They say they only need a car, warm weather clothes for their children, and help with the job search.  They have the bare necessities of furniture, and not much else, but they really want for nothing except to provide a safe environment for their children where they are free to attend school and be raised in a peaceful society.

If you believe every child should have the right to an education, and support this family's effort to free their children from the dangers of the Taliban and Al Qaeda then please help this family by making a donation today.

"That's when I feel most alive, when I'm helping people", Paul Farmer, Mountains Beyond Mountains.

I extend my deepest heartfelt thanks for taking the time to read their story.

Do something that matters and feel alive with me,
