Jordan experienced an incident Sunday night that all pet owners hope will never happen. Arriving home she found one of her precious pups lying in the grass at the top of her driveway. Diesel had been hit by a car. After receiving the call from Jordan, Karen and I rushed to her house and helped to get him medical attention. After arriving at the veterinarian clinic we had to put him back in the car and head to the emergency animal clinic. After a couple of hours they were able to stabilize him. Diesel sustained bruising to the lungs, internal bleeding, broken pelvis (in 3 places) and shattered right hip socket. The internal bleeding was brought under control with blood and plasma transfusions. He will require surgery to repair his hip and femur fracture.
Diesel is a Lab and Great Dane mix, a big boy over 100 pounds. He is very strong and can make a full recovery with a high quality of life. His recovery will take a few months. With Jordan’s love and care Diesel overcame Parvovirus as a pup and developed an incredible bond with Jordan. You see he came into Jordan’s life at a time when she needed it most. It was a period of incredible loss and grief. Jordan saved him but Diesel did the same for her. They have a special bond, One that I believe gave him the strength to crawl, without the use of his back legs, from the road back to the top of her driveway.
The plan is for surgery on Wednesday. Between last nights emergency care, the upcoming surgery and 5/6 days of care, it will cost around $8500.00, I’ve written and shared this in hopes that I can help her with the cost of treatment.
