Baby Owens Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Well Owens journey began to run into rough spots early on in utero. We were referred to specialists for IUGR and concerns with his dna. We were ultimately told that we had the choice to abort at 20 weeks and that the doctors couldn't garuantee what he would be like when he was born if he would have any neurological problems etc. This was the roughest part for us as parents. Having every doctor tell you to abort that they couldnt figure out what was wrong; basically they knew nothing besides his tiny body was in the >5 percentile overall! We had no doubt Owen was here to stay and that we would do everything in our power to have a healthy baby!! The weeks went on, I developed Gestational Diabetes eventuyally leading to 4 insulin shots a day and 7 finger pricks...it was not fun but necessary for baby Owen :) So yes I got over my fear of needles and gave myself shots (which I would never have been able to do without Owen!)
At 38 weeks he was born via Emergency Csection because of a non reassuring stress test. Our little man was 4.7 pounds and his blood sugar fell quickly. We ended up in the NICU for 44 long days where he expericenced spinal taps, cortizone timed tests, bolisis for blood sugar, PICC lines, etc. While in the NICU we discovered he had his VSD which we were told had gone away before he was born. He also has a developmental issue with gray matter of the brain not forming outwards in all parts of the brain leaving him succeptable to seizures. MRI's CAT scans xrays the works. We ended up leaving with a healthy 6 pound baby boy with 7 doctors!! He did not have to go back to the hospital afterwards and we went on to try to sort these 7 doctors out. The VSD caused him to breathe very fast with him retracting him stomach muscles and using so much energy for his heart to pump that he was not growing! at 8 months he is 12 pounds and counting...which is really almost trippling his original weight which is awesome! Of coarse we could not wait to have this fixed it limited him a lot as well as us as a family. His muscle tone is weak almost not visible because of all of the energy used for his heart so he is delayed in some milestones like crawling and sitting. With heart patients eveyrhing has to be clean....a cold put him in the hospital for 8 days delaying his heart surgery twice. As parents we had to take off almost a whole month of work beacuse of cancelled surgerory dates. Finally we were able to keep things calm and make it to UVA medical center for his surgery!! But now we are looking at bills coming up that unfortunately cant wait, ontop of medical bills that were not covered by insurances. So this is our GoFundMe account for the chance that you would want to share for Owen!
