Help Krishna's Family in Nepal

Donation protected
Our friend and trekking guide, Krishna Dhakal and his entire family are alive!
He contacted me this morning, April 29, via Facebook messenger.   We have been communicating this way since we ended our Annapurna trek in Nepal in early November.  But I had heard nothing from him since the earthquake.

He said, "we all are fine here it was really a big problem for us as we lost our home and all the property in village and there is not even a workable place in Thamel but we are alive and doing struggle here."
This evening (his morning) he said, "As you can see we have lost 5266 lives here and my whole village is destroyed I can't say anymore."

Reuben and I are from Phoenix, Arizona, USA.  We found Krishna through friends who had trekked with him a few years earlier.
Krishna was the perfect guide for us - a combination of kindness, patience, humor and determination.  Despite Reuben's illness and my sprained ankle, we completed our trek in 9 days, thanks to Krishna and his friend/porter, Gonga.  We will never forget Nepal and we will never forget them.
During trekking season, Krishna and his family lived and worked in Thamel, the overrun, rundown tourist section of Kathmandu.  His wife, Radhika, cooked for the merchants and ran food to them to supplement Krishna's trekking income. I shot this Thamel photo last October.
This Getty photo shows Thamel today.  Krishna and his entire family are living in a Red Cross tent in Kathmandu, with thousands of other Nepalis.  He borrowed a laptop from a friend and was able to let us know he is safe.  His own hard-earned laptop is gone.

Along with a multitude of sacred sites, the tourist industry in Nepal has already begun to collapse. Before the quake, Nepal was trying to recover from a civil war while dealing with a decrepit infrastructure, curruption, intermittent electricity, and social unrest.  Tourism was the silver lining.  For now it’s all over.
Grateful for his family's safety, Krishna realizes that they are starting over.  Anything you can give will help these kind and generous people.  Every little bit will be sent directly to Krishna and his extended family to be used for food, shelter, clothing and other necessities of life.  Knowing Krishna, he will be helping others, as well.

Namasté,
