Help Casey Kick Cancer's Butt
Hi everyone, Casey’s friends and family here! As some of you might know, Casey was diagnosed with a very rare form of brain cancer earlier this year.
We’ve created this GoFundMe page for those who are unable to attend the benefit for Casey at the Carey Brewing Station on August 22 from 3pm-6pm (please stop by!) or for those who may prefer to donate through this platform. All funds raised will go to Casey to help with expenses related to her medical procedures and treatment.
Please help us help Casey kick cancer’s a** - any amount is greatly appreciated!
A Little About Casey’s Story. In December of 2020, doctors discovered a tumor on Casey's brain during a CT scan. Due to the location of the tumor on her brainstem, local doctors referred her to Columbus for more specialized medical care. In March of this year, Casey underwent her first surgery to attempt to remove the tumor. While much of the growth was removed, the surgeon was unable to remove the entire mass due to its proximity to her brain stem. Additional tumors were also discovered, including on her spine. The biopsy of the removed portion of the tumor showed that it was a cancerous Choroid Plexus tumor, a form of cancer that affects less than 1% of folks who suffer from brain tumors. While recovery from a surgery of this magnitude was difficult enough, the incision on the back of her head and neck then became infected, leading to another procedure and hospital stay. Just a few short weeks after that, it was discovered that spinal fluid was leaking from the incision, leading to another surgery, hospital stay, lumbar drain, picc line and daily IV antibiotics for 11 long weeks. After consultation with the James Cancer Hospital, Casey was referred to the University of Cincinnati Proton Therapy Center for proton therapy. Treatments are set to begin this July, with the first scheduled in just a few weeks. Currently, Casey’s medical team plans to administer treatment every day for 6 weeks, with the hope that no further treatments or chemotherapy will be needed at the conclusion. However, due to the frequency and effects of the treatments on her body, she will be required to stay in Cincinnati Monday through Friday for the duration of her treatment plan.
As you probably guessed, Casey has been unable to work since March and the medical procedures and follow up required to this point have been very expensive. As she continues into her treatment plan for the next 6 weeks, the expenses will continue to rapidly add up, now including costs related to hotel stays, food and gas.
We’ve put together the benefit (more information below) and this GoFundMe to try to help offset these costs. Thank you for your donation!
