To my dearest friends and family, it is with a heavy heart that I sit here struggling to find the right words to say. For those of you who do not know our baby's journey let me start from the beginning..
Baby Gabriel Issac Carrillo was born on January 9, 2015. Our precious baby was born at 31 weeks gestation due to my mom developing severe preclampsia. My mother had been in the hospital 2 weeks prior on strict bed rest hoping to keep him inside as long as possible. On January 9th, my mother was rushed into an emergency c-section resulting in Baby Gabriel being born 2 lbs 13 ounces. He was immediately sent to Banner Thunderbird Hospital NICU where he spent the next 80 days overcoming numerous illnesses. During his time in NICU he developed necrotizing entercolitis, requiring surgery at 8 weeks old to remove a part of his intestines. He soon recovered from surgery and was finally sent home on March 30. Our family was finally complete!
After a wonderful and amazing 3 weeks at home, Baby Gabriel returned to Banner Thunderbird Hospital on April 22 to reconnect his intestines. Baby Gabriel recovered quickly and was sent home on April 27.
On Tuesday, April 28, without warning, our little boy stopped breathing. Mom instinctly did CPR to revive her son while she waited for paramedics to arrive. After what felt like hours, an ambulance finally arrived. Baby Gabriel was then transported to Banner Estrella where doctors and nurses were unfortunately unable to resesitate him. And just like that, our baby boy was gone. Despite all the challenges he may have faced, our little boy was a strong fighter. Our hero.
On behalf of me and my family, I want to thank you for wanting to be part of such a tragic event. Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers and hold on tight to your loved ones. You never know what tomorrow brings. Our family is now 4 people, plus an angel.
