Tay’s Recovery from Double Leg Amputation Revision
Donation protected
Hey friends!
Since my amputations in 2018 and 2019, I have been dealing with some complications that have made wearing my prosthetic legs difficult and painful. On July 23rd, 2024 I had a double amputation revision to fix these complications.
I had 2 very renowned surgeons working on my legs. Dr. Hsu removed some soft tissue that was causing fluctuations in the volume of my leg which made fitting prosthetics very difficult. He also reattached my calf muscle to the front of my tibia in order to provide padding to the end of my leg and stretch my remaining muscle and soft tissue evenly over my residual limb. Finally, he shaved my bone down by 5 mm to create a better shape for my prostheses.
I also had Dr. Loeffler perform 2 types of nerve procedures to imbed my nerves into my calf muscle or use grafts to cap the nerves. This should prevent painful neuromas and also help with phantom pain.
This surgery has been painful and difficult to recover from, but I have had an amazing care team and amazing friends and family to help me through it. Specifically, my husband has been a huge help to me as he has hardly left my side in the hospital and has taken a medical leave of absence from work in order to take care of me.
I am creating this fundraiser in order to help with medical bills and our family income as we are not bringing in any money during this recovery. If you can help us at all we would be forever grateful. You do not know how much your continued support has meant to u and me personally. Thank you for your love and support through these difficult times. I am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel and it is very exciting! I love you all and thank you again!
