HELP a Black queer person leave her emotionally abusive yt roommate.
Octavia (she/they) is a Black, queer, disabled and perpetually tired grad student who's graduating with their masters of public policy in the fall. She is a first-generation college student with a 3.9 GPA this semester who wants to work in the field of community development. Her work centers on the longevity of Black and brown communities, equitable housing, and anti-gentrification work.
They’re a funny, sometimes awkward ambivert who likes to hang out with their friends, go on nature walks, read for fun, play Breath of the Wild on their switch, add to their crystal collection, keep her plants alive, and rest.
She is seeking financial support to help her heal and find a new home where they can finish school, experience joy, and rest.
Incidents by roommate:
- Saying anti-black comments during conflict: using racially coded language to describe Octavia and their former partner who are both Black
- Creates a toxic living environment: routinely harassing Octavia; yells, bulldozes, and insults Octavia. It was so volatile that Octavia ceased in person conversation with them. They continually accuse Octavia of gaslighting them whenever she tries to bring up abusive behaviors.
- Creates a toxic home environment with increasing levels of control: they leverage their financial privilege and withhold necessary supplies one needs to live including toilet paper and internet.
Octavia has had friends come to stay with them briefly to support them and have witnessed the situation first-hand.
Funds raised will go towards:
- First, last, and security deposit at a new place
- Furniture for the new place including a new mattress
- General moving costs including a Uhaul and packing supplies
- Therapy and acupuncture costs to support their healing
- General living expenses
