What do YOU want to be when you grow up?
Throughout my life, this was the toughest question to answer, but as of today, I can finally answer it truthfully.
I want to be a 3rd grade teacher! (I know, crazy right?!)
As most of you know, I recently graduated from University of California State, East Bay with my undergraduate degree in Communication & Media Studies. As of last week, I was accepted into Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Master of Arts in Teaching - Elementary Education Program for Summer 2020. I am beyond excited for this opportunity, not only because I got accepted, but because this is what I am really passionate about. This program will take me two years to complete. It includes in-person lectures and student teaching in multiple classrooms.
While finishing at Cal State East Bay, I graduated with a 3.7 GPA while being a full time employee as an Assistant Director. I will say, I thrive in stressful times and since working full time, I’ve always been able to complete and excel in my studies. I have worked extremely hard to graduate from Cal State East Bay debt free. I want to continue that pattern, so that I can really focus on teaching. I have found my passion as an educator throughout my last years of working. I want to change the way we look at learning and let the minds of children flow with curiosity. These kids deserve an education that can allow them to thrive in a fun, safe, and nurturing environment and I plan to give that to them. So what do I want to be when I grow up? THIS. I want to help children grow, while developing skills they will hold onto for the rest of their lives.
This program starts June 8th, so it's coming up! I have worked my whole life to find something I’m passionate about, however without financial support, I would be facing multiple obstacles to achieve my dreams. This could be a wonderful graduation gift to me as well. I'd love your support!
I am really appreciative of any amount you can give! I understand that these are tough times and I may be asking for a lot. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Kindly,
Taylor Anne Marlais
