Taylor Piedra was the first person to welcome you as you entered Barneys New York. Sharp, witty, and exceptionally dedicated, Taylor joined Barneys in the 1990s and remained until the store’s closure in 2020. Recognizing an opportunity to enhance the client experience, he pioneered the concept of a concierge service within a luxury retail environment—a vision the company embraced. Taylor became the first retail concierge to be inducted into the New York City Association of Hotel Concierges and was featured in publications including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and WWD. For Taylor, no client request was ever too difficult, and he was relentless in delivering exceptional service. We worked closely for ten years, always calling each other to find solutions. Although Barneys was a large organization, it always felt small because of the close-knit, family-like community we shared. Taylor was truly one of a kind, and his loss is deeply felt. We have lost a true Barneys New York legend. Taylor's brother is 71, disabled, and lives outside New York, making it impossible for him to manage the arrangements. I am covering the costs and organizing everything for his brother, including cremation, memorial, court expenses, cleaning out Taylor's apartment, and shipping personal items to his brother. I am grateful for everyone's help to make this process easier for Taylor's brother. The outpouring of messages has shown how respected and loved Taylor was.
