Taxi in Bethlehem: Help Waleed and His Family!
Donation protected
Waleed is a taxi driver from Bethlehem where he lives with his family of Qais, Lynn, and Layan.
Once you arrived in Bethlehem by bus, Waleed would have welcomed and accompanied you to visit the city.
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the separation wall, and the refugee camp of 'Ayda.
He would have asked curiously about you and your trip. He would have told you about himself and the son who had asked his father many times to take him to Hebron and about the daily worries of being a father in the West Bank, about the need to plan every move and every small daily gesture, in the West Bank.
Then Hebron, Jericho, and the highlands to the Red Sea, if you wanted. And you would have a good Palestinian falafel with him.
Since the beginning of Israel's war against Palestine, life in the West Bank has changed a lot and so has the life of Waleed and his family: the flow of tourists has stopped and taxi rides have become a serious security risk since they are often targeted by the Israeli army and settlers.
People cannot travel safely in the West Bank and Waleed's taxi stopped.
The economy is stagnant, the Palestinian Authority does not even have access to the revenue that Israel has frozen since the beginning of the war and entrusted to the Norwegian state.
These are news you already know or that you can easily verify. Please find below some articles from the Palestinian and international press on these topics.
But if you haven't been to Bethlehem, perhaps you haven't been lucky enough to meet my dear friend Waleed and that's why I wrote this post, hoping that his story like that of many Palestinians has struck you and pushed you to help Waleed's family over this moment when the yellow taxi stopped.
The Palestinian state is not among the countries supported directly by GoFundMe so the funds will be temporarily collected in my bank account and once an adequate sum has been reached, I will transfer the money to Waleed's family (the reference for the family is Waleed's father Mr . Muhammad Mahmoud Suleiman Abu Hamid) via Western Union. Once the transfer has taken place I will provide a detailed report on this page.
