The Bega Roosters Rugby League Football Club have created a GoFund me page to help one of our players Tawhiwhi Karaitiana.
On 26 July 2026, Tawh played a regulation game of football scoring 2 trys and being named best on the ground. Following the game, on his way home he began feeling unwell and shortly after ariving home his partner Bella called an Ambulance to come to the house. Tawh was assessed and then placed in an Ambulance and transferred to Bega Hospital.
Over the next 48 hours, and many tests Tawh's condition deteriorated rapidly resulting in the Dr's deciding to place Tawh in an induced coma and transferring him by helicopter to Canberra Hospital for specialist neurological care and monitoring.
During his stay in Canberra, Tawh underwent extensive assessments and treatment for ongoing seizures. After 3 days he was slowly awoken and his long recovery begun. Throughout this challenging time, he has been surrounded by the love and support of his partner, family and friends.
After a week in hospital, Tawh was able to return home, where he is now being cared for by his partner, Bella, and her family. While being home is a positive step, the road to recovery is expected to be long and challenging. Tawh requires ongoing specialist medical appointments, assessments, treatment, and travel to support his rehabilitation.
As a result of his injury, Tawh is currently unable to work. We are raising funds to help ease the financial burden associated with his medical care, travel expenses, and rehabilitation during this difficult period.
At just 23 years of age and in the prime of his life, this event took everyone by surprise and has rocked everyone who knows Tawh.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a genuine difference and help support Tawh as he focuses on his recovery. If you are unable to donate, we would be incredibly grateful if you could share this page and/or leave a message of support.
From Tawh, Bella, their families, and everyone standing beside them, thank you for the overwhelming support, kind messages, visits, prayers, and encouragement during what has been an incredibly frightening and uncertain time.
Your generosity, compassion, and support mean more than words can express.
❤️ Thank you for helping Tawh on his journey to recovery.
