Tatiana Therosme on Women Deliver 100: The Most Inspiring People Delivering for Girls and Women
Hi, I’m Emilia, and I’m ten years old. My parents and I are creating this Go Fund Me page for our dear friend Tatiana Therosme. Tatiana, or Tati as we call her, has truly been a big sister to me, and I have known her since long before the beginning of her medical problems.
Tatiana is a psychologist for the organization Partners In Health, in Haiti, where she was born and raised. She lives in Haiti with her family, and where she directs community health worker mental health programs for Partners In Health. My dad has worked with Tati and her team since January, 2010, when there was an earthquake.
Tati has been coming to stay with us on work trips since I was 4. She has worked very hard to rebuild her country. For the past two years we have been very lucky to host Tati during her medical visits. She has lived with us while in Boston receiving medical care. Tati, her parents, her six sisters and brothers, and we, are one big family.
Tati is thirty-five years old, and the oldest of seven children. She is the kindest, most generous person I know. She has been giving her life for others, whether her family, or the people she serves. Even though the last number of years, during which Tati has suffered under her medical condition, she is always ready to smile, laugh, or make a joke. She is always a positive person.
And Tati has already accomplished amazing things in her life. In 2011, along with Hillary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Amartya Sen, Christiane Amanpour, Melinda Gates, Wangari Maathai of Kenya, Shirin Abadi of Iran, Queen Rania of Jordan, and other notable people around the world, she was named among the Women Deliver 100: The Most Inspiring People Delivering for Girls and Women. She was described this way: “Not all lives are saved in hospitals – some are saved at kitchen tables. That’s where Therosme, a psychologist, often does her work. Even before the devastation of last year’s earthquake, she was one of very few mental health professionals in all of Haiti. As Head Psychologist for Zanmi Lasante, an affiliate of Partners in Health, she worked to shatter the silence surrounding mental illness, one patient at a time. Now, she is working with women recovering from the trauma of the 2010 earthquake, and the epidemic of sexual assault, physical abuse, depression and anxiety that followed. Helping women to work through their experiences and look forward into the future, Therosme is more than just a listening ear – she is helping women to recover their lives.”
Until two years ago, we did not know Tati had a serious medical condition. When she broke her leg while riding on a scooter to one of the hospital sites where she works in August 2014, blood tests showed other problems. We tried to make sure that Tati got all of her medical care in Haiti, but we reached a limit of what could be done there. The doctors said her leg had broken too easily, and she needed special care. Since her first medical visit to Boston in May of 2016 a great team of nurses and doctors at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston have provided Tatiana with lifesaving medical care, and accompanied her along the way. Over the past two years the doctors have discovered that she has a very rare problem with her liver, with an unknown cause. On March 9, 2018 her doctor confirmed for us that given that she has a rapidly growing tumor in her liver, she will need a liver transplant within the next two years. The good news is that if she can have a transplant, she can survive, because any related medical problems she is facing are treatable. So far we have together been able to get Tati the care she has needed, without any fundraising. This is due to the generosity and kindness of many unsung people. We have now reached a point where we have to do more to ensure that she can have the transplant operation.
A liver transplant costs between $300,000 and $500,000. We are hoping to raise between $90,000 and $150,000 on Go Fund Me in the next six months. We believe that we can raise the rest of the funds in other ways. We believe that if you make a donation to Tatiana’s fund on Go Fund Me, we can make the transplant happen. After the transplant, Tatiana will receive care at the Mirebalais University Teaching Hospital in Haiti, close to home. While this is an excellent hospital in Haiti, the capacity for liver transplants in Haiti does not currently exist. Tati wants to be home with her family, and will be with them in between ongoing visits. The funds obtained through this Go Fund Me page will be managed by my mother, Emily, a leader with a long track record working in non-profit organizations, will oversee the responsible management of these funds.
We can make this happen! Consider making a donation - small or large. Thank you for your time and your gift of generosity!

Li sou kontribisyon Tatiana nan kominote li: Tatiana Thérosmé nan Women Deliver 100: Moun ki apdelivre sèvis pou fanm ak ti fi ki bay anpilenspirasyon.
Bonjou, mwen rele Emilia, e mwen gen dizan (10 an).Paran mwen ak mwen ap kreye paj Go Fund Me sa a pou zanmi nou renmen anpil, Tatiana Thérosmé. Tatiana, oswa Tati jan nou rele l', se vrèman yon gransè pou mwen, e mwen konnen li depi lontan anvanpwoblèm medikal li yo te kòmanse.
Tatiana se yon sikològ k’ap travay pou òganizasyonZanmi Lasante, an Ayiti, peyi kote li te fèt ak grandi. L’ap viv an Ayiti ak fanmi li, kote li ap dirije pwogramajan sante mantal kominotè pou Zanmi Lasante. Papa m’ ap travay ak Tati ak ekip li depi janvye 2010, apretranbleman tè a te fin pase a. Tati te travay di anpilpou patisipe nan rekonstwi peyi li.
Tati te toujou vini pou pase tan avèk nou depi m’ tegen 4 an. Nan 2 dènye ane ki sot pase la yo, nou tegen chans pou nou rezevwa Tati lakay nou poupandan vizit medikal li yo. Se lakay nou li rete lè li Boston ap resevwa laswenyay doktè. Tati, paran li, sis (6) sè ak frè li yo avèk nou menm se yon sèl gwo kòtfanmi. Menm si kèk fwa, li pa santi l sou san l akoz pwoblèm medikal li yo, men li toujou kontan anbakeavèk nou nan ti avanti n’ap fè pou amize nou; li pa janm vle rate yon sòti oubyen yon nouvèl bèleksperyans ke lavi a ka ofri li.
Menmpandan dènye ane sa yo, kote Tati ap soufri anbakondisyon maladi li, li toujou ap souri, ap ri, oswatoujou pare pou fè yon blag.
Tati deja akonpli anpil gwo bagay nan lavi li. Pou anpiltravay enpòtan li te fè nan ede moun apretranblemann tè a, an 2011, sou menm lis ak Hillary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Amartya Sen, Christiane Amanpour, Melinda Gates, Wangari Maathai nan Kenya, Shirin Abadi nan Iran, Rani Rania, nan Jòdani, ak lòt moun remakab atravè mond lan, yo te nome li pami “100 Founisè Fanm: Moun ki bay plisenspirasyon nan sèvi fanm ak ti fi” (Women Deliver 100: The Most Inspiring People Delivering for and Girls and Women). Men sa yo te ekri sou li nan okazyon gwo rekonesans sa a: "Se pa tout lavi yosove nan lopital - gen kèk ki sove bò yon tab kwizintou. Se la Therosme, yon sikològ, souvan fè travay li. Menm anvan devastasyon tranbleman tè ane pase a, li te youn nan ra pwofesyonèl sante mantal nan tout Ayiti. Kòm yon Sikològ antèt pou Zanmi Lasante, yon afilye Partners In Health, li te travay pou kraze silanski antoure maladi mantal, yon pasyan alafwa. Koulyea, li ap travay ak fanm k’ap rekipere anba chòktranblemann tè 2010 la, epi anba epidemi vyolansseksyèl, abi fizik, depresyon ak anksyete ki swivkatastwòf sa a. Ede fanm yo travèse eksperyans yoepi fikse je yo sou lavni, Therosme se pi plis pase yon zòrèy k’ap koute - li ap ede fanm yo rekonstwi laviyo."
Avan 2 ane ki sot pase yo, nou pa t' konnen Tati tegen yon maladi grav. Lè janm li te kase nan yon aksidan pandan li te nan wout pou youn nan lopitalkote li travay yo, tès san te montre li gen lòt pwoblèmanplis pye kase a. Nou te eseye asire ke Tati teresevwa tout swen medikal li an Ayiti, men nou te rive nan limit sa ki kapab fèt an Ayiti yo. Doktè yo te di kejanm li te kase twò fasil, e ke li te bezwen swenespesyal. Depi premye vizit medikal li nan Boston nan mwa Me 2016, yon gwo ekip enfimyè ak doktè nan Brigham and Women's Hospital, ak Dana Farber Cancer Institute nan Boston te bay Tatiana anpiltrètman medikal ki te enpòtan pou lavi li, epi yo teakonpaye l toutolon pwosesis la. Pandan de ane kisot pase yo, doktè yo te dekouvri ke li gen yon pwoblèm trè ra nan fwa li ki pa gen yon koz klè. Le 9 mas 2018, ki sot pase la a, doktè li konfime pou nouke li gen yon ti boul nan fwa li k’ap grandi rapidman, li pral bezwen yon transplantasyon fwa nan de (2)pwochen ane yo. Bòn nouvèl la se ke si li resevwayon transplantasyon fwa, zanmi nou an kab siviv, paske tout lòt pwoblèm medikal asosye li genyen yokapab trete. Jiskounye a, ansanm nou te reyisi jwennmwayen pou nou bay Tati swen li te bezwen, san noupat fè leve fon (fund raising). Sa te posib gras akjenewozite anpil zanmi Tati. Nou rive kounye a nanyon pwen kote nou dwe fè plis pou nou asire nou ke li ap benefisye operasyon transplantasyon an.
Yon transplantasyon fwa koute ant $ 300,000 ak $ 500,000 US. Nou espere leve ant $ 90,000 ak $ 150,000 US sou ‘Go Fund Me' nan sis (6) pwochenmwa yo. Nou panse nou ap ka ranmase rès fon an nan lòt fason. Nou kwè ke si ou fè yon don nan FonTatiana a sou Go Fund Me, li ap reyisi benefisyetransplantasyon fwa a. Aprè transplantasyon an, Tatiana pral kontinye resevwa swen nan LopitalInivèsite Mirebalais, HUM, an Ayiti, tou pre kay li.Menm si se yon lopital ekselan, pa genyen kapasitepou fè transplantasyon fwa an Ayiti kounye a. Tati vlerete lakay li ak fanmi li, konsa li ap ansanm ak yoantre vizit suivi li va gen pou l fè yo nan Boston.
