Tatanka Grunts: USMC Warriors Honor Their Fallen

Hi, my name is Lloyd Francis. My partner Garrett Anderson and I are trying to raise money to fund the production of a documentary about Marine veterans of the Second Battle of Fallujah, Iraq. They will be coming together on the Nakota Reservation at Fort Belknap, Montana to honor their fallen through a ceremony that includes a sweat lodge, buffalo hunt, feast, and horseback riding. The ceremony will be hosted by Catcher Cuts-the-rope, a former squad-leader of Third Platoon during Fallujah.

Garrett Anderson was a platoon radio operator for First Battalion, Third Marines, Alpha Company, Third Platoon, and I was working for the Marine Corps Times as a photojournalist, embedded with Third Platoon. Garrett and I met in an abandoned building in Fallujah over two handfuls of Fruit Loops. Nineteen years later we have reunited to tell this unique story. This film will be very important for the veterans who are gathering at the reservation. We will be filming their experience as they honor those no longer with us, and take another step in healing. This documentary will give the general public a glimpse of the selfless sacrifice amongst the brothers of the Third Platoon who will band together once more to accomplish a common task.
