TARZAN is ALIVE & 1 Step Closer To Coming HOME!!!!!! ♥️♥️

Hi Everyone!

I just want to thank you all from the very bottom of my heart for your outpouring of love and support.

YES, the kitty that Kysa found out in the freezing cold last evening is my beloved TARZAN who has been missing 15.5 months!!!!

It’s truly a miracle!!!!!

Tarzan is currently being treated at Palmer Veterinary Clinic in Plattsburgh and he is indeed in ‘rough’ shape, so the next 24-48 hours are crucial...
❤️

-He has an awful upper respiratory infection which they have started him on multiple IV antibiotics
-He could possibly have more than the respiratory infection, but it’s hard to tell where else may be a source, so they’re treating him with a few different IV antibiotics just to cover nearly anything possible
-He is currently having trouble regulating his temperature, so they are slowly warming him
-He is also having issues with low blood sugars, so they have him connected to a continuous IV infusion of Dextrose (“Sugar”)
-He did have a seizure earlier this AM, but that could have been caused from the ‘warming’ or ‘low blood sugar’. Has not had any seizure-like activity since first arriving to Palmers.
-He has frostbite on both tips of his ears, his nose, and 1 toe on his hind paw
-He is incredibly emaciated; skin and bones. Very weak. Very lethargic!
-The vet doesn’t believe that he has any broken bones
-His labs show that he: has an infection, he’s a bit anemic (not low enough to require transfusion), a majority of his electrolytes are low due to being malnourished... but he is NOT in renal/kidney failure or liver failure!

-So if we can get him over this ‘hump’ and start getting the antibiotics to do ‘their thing’, then Tarzan does have a pretty good chance at recovery. Recovery isn’t going to be easy by any means by I will do whatever he needs. He’s been through hell and back (it appears) over the last 15+ months. So after getting over this initial phase, it will take quite a while to get him to get some of his strength back and so that he is well enough to FINALLY return home!!!!!!!

Again, I appreciate each and every message, ‘tag’, phone call, text, etc of everyone that has reached out to me since Tarzan went missing and definitely since last night!

I truly cannot thank Kysa enough for rescuing my baby and for bringing him to the vet first thing this AM as the vet said that he definitely would not have survived last night had he not been rescued. So I’m forever thankful, grateful, and absolutely blessed that my boy has been located and that he is now receiving all of the care that he deserves... and has a warm place to stay tonight with food, water, etc. Tonight is probably the very first night since he got out on me that he’s probably not wondering where he’ll end up sleeping or finding food/water.

I saw Tarzan this afternoon and Dr Karen let my Mom and I spend a great deal of time loving and snuggling him right up and we also discussed his prognosis at great length. At this point, I have chosen to have the vets ‘do everything that they can’ within reason. If at any point Tarzan is suffering or if he worsens, we will discuss changing ‘the plan’, but as for now, we’d like to move forward and treat him in any/all ways he needs right now. I will be returning to Palmers daily and will update on his status each afternoon or evening.

Also, multiple kind souls have reached out to me and to Palmers in regards to wanting to help out with the financial costs of Tarzan’s medical care... and in order to do that, I have been informed that if you call Palmers and ask to provide a donation for the ‘Medical Treatment of Tarzan-Castine’ then they will be putting together the donations for us... or we have chosen to set up this account as so many people are calling Palmers (WOW! My heart is truly overwhelmed with gratitude)!!! Thank you, everyone!

Tarzan is a fighter and if he’s made it through the last 15+ months (after never being outside before or having to ‘fend for himself’), then I know that he will keep fighting! He opened his eyes when I would say his name this afternoon and he purred so loudly... as if he was using every bit of energy he could muster up. He snuggled right into my chest as soon as he realized it was me. So I ask (beg!!) of you to say a prayer or 10 for Tarzan tonight and in the days to come. I truly believe that he can get through this and especially with such a wonderful community rallying behind him. He truly is a miracle!!! ♥️
