Tarsha’s Cavernoma (Stroke) Recovery Fund

Life is an amazing thing. Just when you think everything is perfect, here comes a curveball. My curveball was on May 18th when my mother, Tarsha Williams, suffered a severe hemorrhagic stroke caused by a cavernoma (an abnormal cluster of brain cells). She was immediately brought to Northeast hospital where she was intubated and sedated. She was emergency airlifted to CMC Main’s Neurological ICU, where she was cared for, for two months.

My mom was intubated for two weeks as we waited for her lung strength to return. Unfortunately, due to an allergic reaction to medications administered, she suffered extreme angioedema (swelling of the tongue). While she was able to breathe on her own, her airway was blocked due to the swelling. An emergency tracheostomy was performed to allow her to be able to breathe. As a result of the tracheostomy, she underwent surgery to receive a semi-permanent feeding tube. I knew at this point our lives would never be the same.

When it was all said and done, and my mom finally opened her eyes she had lost motor function on her right side, she was unable to walk, talk, and her vision was diminished.

Miracle one, my mom experienced the stroke while everyone was home. She could have been all alone and that could have been fatal. Miracle two, the fast actions of all the medical professionals absolutely saved my mother’s life. Miracle three, SHE SURVIVED. After about a month in the ICU she was transferred to Progressive Care and then to Rehab. Miracle four, within three weeks of rehab she regained some use of the right side of her body, she was able to walk on a walker, regained some verbal communication, and do something that most of us take for granted – brush our teeth.

My mom is now home as a rehab outpatient, regaining her strength and on her journey towards recovery! Her biggest concern is her inability to work. We all know bills do not stop when you experience a traumatic event - - although, however we do not want her to be preoccupied with things such as finances. The only thing we want her to focus on is HEALING! I have decided to create this Go Fund Me to fill the financial gap of my mother’s income (she was the main provider), make modifications to her home, purchase supplies to accommodate her needs, and assist with various bills that have incurred. When I received the bill just for her air transport, I nearly fell to the floor, her helicopter must have been made of gold.

I am so grateful for the progress my mother has already made in such a short time, she is my walking miracle. Thank you, to all of our friends and family who have showed us such great support. Your prayers are greatly appreciated. My mom’s book of life has been very glorious. This is just one chapter that allows God an opportunity to show off.
