Tarik's Fight Against Lung Cancer

Hi everyone, I am creating this gofundme page to seek funds for my father’s medical treatment. My father, AFM Mofazzal Hossain Tarik, has been suffering from Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) for a long time. Recently, he has also been diagnosed with Stage 3 Lung Cancer. His health has worsened significantly and we are currently trying our best to get him immediate medical treatment. However, the entire process of seeking medical care for him has been incredibly difficult for us since we are struggling financially and medical expenses are very high.

The Battle with ILD and Cancer

My father led a healthy and active life but in December 2020, he fell very sick with a high fever and severe breathing difficulties. He was hospitalized and subsequently diagnosed with Interstitial Lung Disease (also called diffuse parenchymal lung disease (DPLD)). It is a rare and progressive disease causing inflammation and scarring in lung tissue. CT Scans of my father showed he had severe levels of fibrosis in his lungs and that the disease was progressing aggressively. After numerous tests, it was determined that he had been living with ILD for many years, but it had remained undiagnosed until then. Although ILD is incurable, we immediately started a treatment plan with strong medication and steroids to slow down the progression of the disease and alleviate the symptoms.

This went on for about a year but in November 2022, his health declined significantly again. Our world was rocked when tests showed malignant tumors made of epithelial cells without cellular differentiation. A core biopsy was done, revealing it to be Non-small Cell Carcinoma, Poorly Differentiated (Grade 3).

Many complications arose from starting a treatment plan since my father’s lungs are already in very poor condition. He underwent major surgery, from which he is still recovering. He is currently hospitalized in the High Care Unit (HCU) of Green Life Medical College and Hospital. However, that is only half the battle since he would extensively need further treatment, including chemotherapy.

Expenses and Financials

The costs of tests and treatment are very high and things have been exceedingly difficult for us. Throughout his career, my father worked in several organizations and spent the last 15 years of his career working in the textile industry. In 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic started, the factory he worked in closed down, and soon afterward, he fell sick and was unable to go back to work. My mother is a school teacher and has also been working multiple other jobs trying to make ends meet. I myself am a recent university graduate and am working as much as I can to support my family.

Nevertheless, the continuing cost of treatment is quickly becoming too much for us to bear. Due to the aggressive nature of cancer, time is not on our side. We are asking for your help raising funds so that the money is there when needed. All the money raised will be used for Tarik’s health and medical expenses, loss of wages, general living expenses, and anything else that may come up in the next challenging months ahead.

Who is AFM Mofazzal Hossain Tarik?

Anyone who met my father, Tarik, knows what an incredible person he is. He is an exceptionally kind, friendly, and affectionate individual, always showing up for friends and family without hesitation. I am the only child of my father and I love him to death. He is also a loving husband to my mother and an adored uncle to all my cousins.

The biggest reason why my father is loved by his family and everyone else around him is due to his nature of working tirelessly to ensure everyone around him feels loved and special. He encourages and celebrates the things that make people unique. He has a wonderful sense of humor and never fails to entertain the people around him.

My father is also an amazing home cook and loves sharing his talent for cooking with family and friends. Whenever there is a celebration or gathering among family or friends, everyone looks forward to dishes cooked by him.
