Tara’s Fight Club

My dear friend of 20 years, Tara, was diagnosed in June 2018 with stage III colon cancer.  Up to this point (November 2018) she has endured 6 weeks of concurrent chemoradiation, a lower anterior resection surgery, and has recently started another cycle of chemotherapy.  She has an ileostomy due to her surgery and that is a daily struggle.  At the end of this cycle of chemo, she will have yet another surgery to reverse the ileostomy and will need to be out of work for a month. Her bosses have been unbelievably kind in allowing her to take off any time she needs and being amazingly supportive! However, the time off is unpaid since she has no PTO left.  She has already had about $3,500 in medical bills come in and has missed almost two months worth of work.  Her insurance does not cover the ostomy supplies she has to buy every month which runs around $400 per month.  She is also a volunteer firefighter and stubborn at that- she continues to work and do as much life as she can!  She is truly an inspiration.  As a single mom to 5 kids, she continues to do her best to be there for every choir recital, teacher conference, and still cooks dinner.  Recently she has had to put 4 of the kids in therapy.    As they see their mom struggling more with treatment, they worry about her constantly.  That has been tremendously hard on her.  The new chemo regimen they have her on has also been tremendously hard- she is suffering from extreme side effects including peripheral neuropathy, which means at times she cannot use her hands or fingers properly.  This chemo also comes with cold sensitivity, and it being nearly winter makes it very difficult to do basic things sometimes.  Due to all of this, she will be missing more work than she was hoping to (she was hoping to work straight through).  Please join me in supporting this beautiful soul financially through the Christmas season and beyond so her and the kids do not need to worry about finances due to work missed.  I cannot think of a more giving or deserving family to receive your love during this time.  If you are unable to donate, please share this fundraiser with a call to action on your social media.  Let’s help this go viral!  Share, share, and share some more!  Then ask your friends to share!  Please use the hashtag #taraandthefantastic5 when sharing so we can all see the impact we are having in this family’s journey!  Tara and the kids are thankful for each and every one of you!
