Hello, my name is Rebecca. However, this story is not about me. It is about one of my nearest and dearest. It is about someone whom will forever be bonded to me. Her name is Tara, and she has been that friend. That friend who everyone wished that they had!
Do you know those individuals whom leave you in peace after they accompany you? What about those whom you can tell anything to without fear of judgement? Well, that is this girl! I have truly been blessed to call her my friend. We first met each other around the age of six. Our friendship really blossomed when we were in the same class in the 4th grade. She is one of the most selfless and kind individuals who I have met in this lifetime.
Tara was initially diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago in 2019, at the ripe age of thirty seven. Following her diagnosis she decided to sell her house and move in with her mother. I think the majority of individuals can relate that finances are hard enough in this day and age. Then add significant medical conditions and piling medical bills. She underwent chemotherapy and several surgeries. To her loved ones' relief she was cleared and noted to be in remission in December of 2020.
In July of this year she started having what appeared to be viral symptoms. She was treated for a virus and then a pneumonia. She continued to have respiratory symptoms, fatigue, and difficultly completing daily tasks.
She ended up getting admitted to the hospital last month. An ENT physician confirmed that she had unilateral vocal paralysis. They obtained a CT which was concerning for possible lesions in her lungs and in her upper sternum. The biopsy results did confirm metastatic breast cancer. She is going to be starting a research trial soon. Tara and her loved ones remain very hopeful and we are keeping a positive perspective.
What I know about this girl though. She would not ask for help, not even under these circumstances. She has a beautiful sixteen year old daughter. She has kept a full time job throughout all of this. Her life has not been easy, yet she proves her strength and shows grace time and time again. She has been one of my greatest teachers in this life.
I am looking for any type of support for Tara to help ease the burden of everyday stressors, and possibly the ability to create some lasting memories in such a difficult time. I know that she would be extremely grateful, even if it is just sending her love and positive vibes. Thank you for your time and consideration!
Sincerely,
Tara's BFF
