Hello Everyone!
My name is Tarami Readus. I am a student at Lamar High School in Houston, Tx and I am currently in the 11th grade. I have set out on a mission to study abroad in Nanjing, China for the summer of 2017.
I excel in mathematics, and science has always been a profound interest of mine. My family has always pushed me to learn as many languages as I could. I am currently able to read, write and converse in Spanish and learning to do the same in the most spoken language in the world, Mandarin Chinese. While still in the womb in New Orleans, my mother took West African Dance classes. After my brother and I were born, were sat next to the master drummers, and have taken on the art ourselves. We have performed at events all over Houston, teaching this art.
I was browsing the school website and I saw that my school was offering study abroad experiences with The Council on International Educational Exchange, and I knew I found the opportunity of a lifetime. I sent in my application by the early deadline and on December 21st was awarded a full tuition scholarship!
So why China?
I began to think about the globe and history in its totality. China presented me with a challenge. A new language, a new culture, a completely different way of experiencing the world than here in America. So why China? China has the oldest continuous culture . This is contrasted with China being one of the most modern up and coming societies. This contrast offers a fantastic opportunity to learn both the ancient and contemporary worlds.
This gofundme campaign is to raise funds for the airfare and other costs of travels, and it is only the beginning of my efforts to raise the funds for this experience. To everyone that contributes I send an abundance of love and gratitude. Thank you for your kindness and support. I am forever thankful.
Moreover, I will keep a log of my efforts to both achieve my goal and of my experience in China. I will update it regulary so you can see how your gift of love is being appropriately used.
Love and Gratitude,
Tarami Readus
