It greatly saddens me to bring the heartbreaking news that my beautiful wife, Tara Marie Swift, has passed away after a long battle with cancer. She was 45 years young and taken away from us far too soon. We had so much more that we wanted to do together as a family. She was a wonderful Mom to our children Aviana and Alec and a great wife and best friend to me. Her family was her life and she showed that to us in many ways, every day. She took care of us very well.
We fought the cancer alongside her every step of the way and thought that we had it beat after our multiple trips to Germany last year for treatments. Her cancer returned about a month ago and it had mutated to something we could no longer treat. It took over her liver with such speed, it was a huge surprise to her oncologist as to how fast the cancer spread.
We had time left to say everything that we wanted to say to each other and to the children. We were able to say our goodbyes and we are very thankful for that. We are glad that she is no longer suffering and is now in a great place but we miss her greatly and always will. She was by far the strongest woman I have ever known in many different ways. She was our ROCK!
Tara was beautiful and would light up a room and make friends instantly with complete strangers. She had a way of putting smiles on people’s faces through her captivating smile and her welcoming personality. She drew people to her and she impacted a lot of people’s lives in a positive way.
Tara was a very accomplished and competitive athlete. She excelled in every sport she played as she practiced more than most at what she wanted to be the BEST at. If there was someone better in her position she trained and practiced to make sure SHE would be the better player. I heard stories of Tara shoveling the snow off the driveway in Iowa in the dead of winter, in sub zero temps so she could shoot baskets. She was a VERY tough woman and worked VERY hard to keep an athlete's physique. Because of her hard work and efforts Tara earned a full ride scholarship to Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois to play Division 1 softball. In high school Tara was on the winning teams for the state tournaments in 1992 for basketball AND softball and was inducted into the Hall of Fame at her high school.
A celebration of life is being planned over the next couple of weeks and it will be announced here and other places once we have the venue and date set.
It has been very difficult to text, call and email back the many people that have tried to reach out to me and her parents as we are still trying to take care of the children and keep somewhat in the same routine for them as well as trying to do all the things that need to be done after someone passes. So If I don’t respond right away or at all, please know that I have read what you have said but it’s too overwhelming to respond to everyone at this time.
