Tara & Nicole's Bedbug-Free Journey

Hi!

My names Tara and my partner's name is Nicole.

We've been best friends for 6 years and partners for 5 of those years.

After we've been together for so long we've decided to take the next step in our lives and move in together! For the past year, we've been trying to save up for all that moving entails into a new apartment together. Unfortunately, we've run into some significant problems. My partner lives in HUD housing, as she is disabled. That housing has, we've come to learn, been infested with bedbugs and is a repeated problem in the year's that followed living there. This has led to our saving goal being significantly higher than initially planned, as most moving companies/junk haulers wont remove risk furniture without certificates of treatments for each piece of furniture removed. We called several companies who have estimated the charges of risk furniture removal being over $1000. Not to mention the cost of pre-treating the new apartment just in case. Unfortunately, we have a lot of items that cannot survive heat treatment so other methods will have to be applied to the new place by the pest company.

The apartment complex she's leaving, DOES treat for the pests, at a base level. But they will not supply heat treatments or anything beyond inspections, traps, and spraying. This means that we will have to junk all the furniture to be absolutely safe, and replace the furniture after we move in together. My Partner has done everything they can to be as preventative as possible, from diatomaceous earth, traps, and steam cleaning. She's done all she can as a disabled person living in crappy housing.

So, on top of saving for a down payment, moving companies, bed bug certified junk hauling, replacing furniture, and preventative treatment for the new apartment, we have the estimate of roughly $6,000 being our savings goal.

We have made $4,527.19 saved up so far, and we have 2 months before the move in date.

Its a very stressful problem that we're facing admittedly.. We didn't want to ask initially for help but considering the time frame we are looking at and the cost of bed bug services. we've got no other choice but to reach out to the community and ask for any and all assistance.

Any extra would go to any unforeseen costs involving the move, making our apartment a home, and continuing preventative treatments so this never happens again.
