Help Tara and her 12-Year Old Son, Abel, Avoid Eviction

Hi everyone,

I’m writing to ask for your help for my friend, Tara, and her 12-year-old son, Abel. I’ve known Tara for 15 years, when we both worked together at an alcohol and drug treatment center in Portland, Oregon. She’s one of the most kind, hardworking, and empathetic people I know. She’s an incredibly devoted single mother who has always put her son’s needs first.

Unfortunately, Tara has been facing immense financial hardship since the pandemic began nearly 5 years ago. Her husband abandoned her and Abel, at that time, leaving them with no word and no financial support. Tara has no other family support. Her home was foreclosed, and Tara and Abel were forced to uproot their lives in Idaho and move back to Portland last year.

Tara has been working tirelessly to provide for her son, but things have taken a turn for the worse. She recently lost her job at a bakery and is now facing eviction due to two months of missed rent (July and August).

Abel is a bright and loving boy who deserves a stable home. He’s been incredibly brave and resilient through all of this. I can’t bear to see him or Tara lose their home again.

Earlier this month, Tara was able to find a permanent job as a PCA (personal care aid) at another alcohol and drug treatment center, helping people to detox and recover from severe addiction. This is the first job she has been able to secure with good benefits. She is so close to finding peace, but she needs some more help to avoid homelessness. Her rent for two months is $1645 x 2 (July and August). She needs about $3290 to avoid eviction.

Any donation, no matter how small, would make a huge difference to Tara and her son Abel. I am hoping to raise enough to cover their past-due rent and avoid eviction. Your generosity would give Tara and Abel the peace of mind and stability they so desperately need.
