"Taps ‘Aff” for Jay Holanová - Top Surgery Fund

Donation protected
Morning beautiful people! I am Jay, a 32 year-old medical student from the Czech Republic fundraising for life-changing top-surgery.

When I moved to the Scotland in 2019, the change of environment (for instance literally speaking English, which is less gendered than Czech) and introduction to the queer community here offered me a long-awaited opportunity to explore my non-binary identity. I gained the language to understand and verbalise my life-long experiences of gender dysphoria. This has changed me in so many positive ways: I have a better sense of who I am and who I want to become. For the first time in my life, I can imagine a future.

I have always wanted a flat chest. But now that I am able to put a name to my dysphoria, the anxiety I experience when I look in the mirror has become more severe and my need to change my body feels more urgent than ever. Waiting times to access the NHS Gender Identity Clinic are over 4 years. I could not wait that long, so I am pursuing healthcare privately.

This comes at a significant cost.

  • GP consultation 1: First assessment £360. (Completed January 2022.)
  • Psychology assessment: Second opinion £280. (Completed February 2022.)
  • GP consultation 2: Diagnosis and treatment plan £360. (Completed April 2022.)
  • GP consultation 3: Treatment review £360. (Completed July 2022.)
  • Surgical referral: £360 (Completed July 2022)
  • Psychiatric second opinion: £280 (Scheduled October 2022)
  • Surgical consultations: £250 (1st end of May 2022, 2nd September 2022)
  • Surgical costs with my preferred provider: starting at £10,400
  • Surgery scheduled for 13/12/2022 cancelled due to the surgeon having an accident.
  • New date: 23/05 Costs: £5000 for surgeon, £4325 hospital stay, £1000 anaesthetic

I will be a full-time medical student for the next 6 years, which means I don’t have much money right now or for the foreseeable future. So far I have managed to pay these costs out of my savings. I have saved £4,000 towards surgery and I am proud to have come this far but I can no longer do it alone.

With your support, I hope to enter 2023 tit-free!

My pledge: If I raise more than my top surgery costs, I will put that money into fundraisers for other trans people. Over time, especially once I graduate and am in full-time employment, I plan to pay every penny raised here back into the trans community.

Thank you all,
Jay
