Hello and Jambo!
My name is Dr. Jane Schumacher and I am honored and humbled to be raising funds for the Lesa Maasai Pre and Primary School in Tanzania. I had the experience of a lifetime visiting Tanzania and making friends with a young Maasai man, Ndengere, in September 2023. I absolutely fell in love with the Maasai tribes in this incredible country.
The Maasai people have a long history of living a pastoral life. Children are expected to herd the goats or cattle owned by the family and therefore, are not always encouraged to gain an education by attending school. The illiteracy rate in Maasai tribes hover around 80%. Ndengere and I want to ensure that the children of his tribe obtain an education that will expand the childrensʻ literacy and future.
Ndengere currently has been able to build three classrooms for his tribeʻs children by selling seven of his own familyʻs cows. Ten new children were added to his school this year! Currently, the school is in need of basic supplies, as children have no chairs to sit in, no desks to work at, and not enough learning materials for all of the children. I want to support these children and Ndengere by providing the basics!
I am raising these funds to be able to send them to Ndengere for use in his school. I plan to go back to Tanzania to work directly with the school in planning curriculum, instructional strategies, and teacher training. My heart was touched by Ndengereʻs commitment to helping his Maasai community. Can you help to support our efforts as well?
