Help My Dear Friends Recover from Crisis and Heartbreak

I’m writing on behalf of our two friends who are going through an unimaginable time. In the same week, they experienced a life-threatening heart emergency they lost their beloved English Bulldog, Marmalade, after a painful and traumatic veterinary battle.

They are emotionally shattered, physically overwhelmed, and financially drained — and I’m asking for your help so they can begin to heal.

The Sudden Loss of Marmalade

Marmalade was their world — a sweet, soulful English Bulldog who brought laughter, peace, and comfort to everyone who met her. She was an emotional support companion, and a shining light in their home.

It began with heat stroke. They desperately tried to find emergency care, but it took over 90 minutes to locate an open animal ER. By the time they arrived, Marmalade was in critical condition.

She was placed in ICU, inside an oxygen cage, with a tracheostomy tube to help her breathe and feeding tubes to keep her alive. The veterinarians recommended urgent BOAS surgery to give her a fighting chance. She made it through surgery and was showing signs of recovery.

But on Sunday, her heart suddenly stopped.

Due to the hospitalization of one of her humans for emergency heart surgery, they were unable to visit or be by her side. Marmalade passed away alone — scared, in pain, without the comfort of her family. When they were finally able to get to her, she was gone — but they held her warm body, kissed her soft fur, after many tears they said goodbye.

It was the most devastating loss they could imagine.

❤️ A Medical Emergency That Almost Took a Life

Just days earlier, Tanya suffered a massive cardiac event. Doctors discovered a 99% blockage in the LAD artery (the “widowmaker”) and immediately placed three stents to save her life. She is in the early stages of recovery and has been told by her cardiologist to take extended medical leave due to the physically demanding nature of her kitchen job.

That time off is unpaid, and now compounded by crushing grief, medical expenses, and the loss of their savings in trying to save Marmalade.
