Tanya's big fight
Donation protected
Hi friends and family of my sister, Tanya. Today Tanya underwent surgery to remove part of her lower intestine because of some cancer that was found. She will need the summer to recover, unfortunately she still has a big deductible for her medical and some big bills coming.
Any donation amount is helpful and appreciated. Below is Tanya's journey to just prior to her surgery in her words.
So this is how it all started….
Friday, April 29th, 2022 I had my first colonoscopy. I had turned 50 September 9th, 2021 and I had been thinking I should make a colonoscopy appointment. I am really glad that I did. It turns that I had 4 polyps in the large intestines and 2 suspicious growths in the small intestines. The 4 polyps were removed and all were biopsied as well and 1 of the suspicious growths was biopsied, leaving the other growth untouched.
5/5/2022 - Call from Colonoscopy Doctor
Received a call from my colonoscopy doctor explaining the results. She said that I had 2 neuroendocrine tumors in my small intestines and that they are grade 1 cancer and surgery will be needed to remove the tumors. She said that I will need a PET Scan and to set up an appointment to see a Surgeon Oncologist. She also said that this type of cancer is rare and also can be aggressive.
Nothing was registering with what the doctor had said because all I heard was the word “Cancer”. The most dreadful word you ever want to hear. Everything was going through my head and I knew I had to figure out where to begin with all of this news and how to tell my family that I had cancer.
5/17/2022 - PET Dotatate Scan
This scan was done to see if I had any other tumors and to make sure the cancer did not spread to any other organs. Thank goodness the cancer did not spread and is contained to the small intestines only.
5/18/2022 - Surgeon Oncologist Appointment
Met with the surgeon oncologist and went over the PET Scan and that they were going to remove the 2 tumors and a 1/4 of the small intestines. Surgery was then scheduled for Tuesday, July 12th 2022.
6/29/2022 - PreOp & Lab Work
Talked to the anesthesiologist and went over my medications that I am currently taking so their will not be any inference with the anesthesia they administer.
I also talked to a nurse and went over preparations for the surgery. Labs were done and they took 5 vials of blood. All results were within range that they should be.
7/7/2022 - Received call from a nurse with the time of the surgery and is scheduled for 1:40 pm and will last up to 4 hours.
Hearing that the surgery is to last up to 4 hours, up to 5 days in the hospital and up to 12 weeks recovery had me even more nervous but I kept telling myself that I will get through this and all will be fine.
7/8/2022 - Covid Test, negative
7/9/2022 - Started a low fiber diet that I will be on for 6 weeks following the surgery.
7/10/2022 - My emotions are high, feeling pretty nervous but have complete faith in my surgeon that he will remove all the cancer and will not need chemo or radiation therapy.
Praying everyday that all will be okay and I will be home and back on the mend in no time.
