JUNE 2026:
PLEASE SUPPORT OUR PROJECT PLANNING STAGE TO ACHIEVE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF BELPER WEST BANK WHICH WILL LINK OUR PREVIOUS PROJECT AT WYVER LANE TO CHEVIN ROAD IN BELPER SOUTH!
We need to employ project designers and managers and do several surveys to meet planning conditions attached to our successful planning application. We will also be applying to local businesses and the Lottery Fund for support and to local Active Travel funding sources to fund the project. Your donations will help us achieve this - THANK YOU!
STOP PRESS!! FEBRUARY 2026:
BELPER WEST BANK PLANNING APPROVAL RECEIVED!
Thanks to your generous individual donations and a kind offer of support from local business, Lubrizol, we were able to provide all the requested information to the planning authority to support our planning application - and received planning approval in February.
We celebrated by publicising the application and explaining the funding requirements to build the section to local MPs and supporters at Belper Goes Green festival. We are now progressing implementation plans and working out how to meet the 17 planning conditions attached to the approval!
BELPER WEST BANK RIVER CONDITION SURVEY:
Thanks to a flood (excuse the pun!) of generous individual donations and a kind offer of support from local business, Lubrizol, we are pleased to say we are commissioning our river condition survey. This is the last piece of further information requested by the planners and statutory consultees to support our planning application. These donations will enable us to keep on target for a planning decision in April 2025, so thank you to all who have supported us at this crucial stage! Please keep on donating as we need to demonstrate ongoing local support for the planning application - and we will need funds to progress project management plans and funding applications, if we are successful with our planning application.
GOING WEST!!
We're now working on a north-south route by the river to the west of Belper. We urgently require top-up funds for surveys needed after consultations on our planning application. Please support this next section of the Derwent Valley cycle and walking trail!
CONTINUING THE "FIVER FOR WYVER" CAMPAIGN:
CYCLING AND WALKING TRAIL NORTH AND SOUTH OF WYVER LANE ALONG THE DERWENT VALLEY
Thanks to nearly £5,000 of money raised from donations on this page and £21,000 raised from local companies and organisations, we have now completed the Wyver Lane section of the Derwent Valley trail. Thank you, all donors, for your contribution to this cause: we have improved the surface of Wyver Lane, giving Belper residents a flat, smooth and beautiful route to enjoy cycling and walking with their families, as well as giving people better access to the countryside and the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust bird reserve on the lane.
Please keep donating to this page to help us raise money to link Wyver Lane to other trail sections in the valley, to the north towards Cromford and Matlock and southwards from Belper to Milford, Duffield, Little Eaton, Darley Abbey and Derby. By supporting us here, you will be helping to achieve the longer term vision of providing a multi-user, off-road trail along the whole length of the Derwent Valley. We need crowdfunding to raise funds and to show public support when we apply for grants. See www.derwentvalleytrust.org.uk for details of the route.
More information about Derwent Valley Trust: The Derwent Valley Trust promotes the history, arts, wildlife, access and leisure opportunities that surround the river Derwent along its 55 mile course through the beautiful Derbyshire Dales, Peak District, and Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. Support our project with the aim to enable you to ride, walk, canoe or cycle the Derwent Valley Heritage Way - safely and away from traffic. www.derwentvalleytrust.org.uk/cycle
