My name is Jaime Wawro, and I am raising funds to honour the life of Tanya Myers, the woman who was tragically killed in the Highway 39 shooting near Weyburn.
I didn’t know Tanya before that day, but in the weeks that followed, I got to know a little about her through her family. As I drove past the terminals recently, I couldn’t stop thinking about her. I realized I wanted to do something to help Tanya be remembered for how she lived—not for how she died.
Tanya was close to her family, and my heart breaks for them as they shared their memories of her. She was also a true cat lover—like no one I’ve ever met. She had nine cats of her own, all still cared for by her mother. Her love of cats started early and she was taming barn cats before she even started kindergarten. Cats were a huge part of who she was.
To honour that love and with the approval of her family, I’m hoping to raise the entire amount of $30,000 to donate to the Weyburn Humane Society to sponsor and name the Cat Room after Tanya. If we don’t reach the full amount, the funds will go toward naming the Cat Storage Room in her memory instead. Either way, this will create a lasting tribute in our community that reflects her kindness and her lifelong connection to cats.
Every dollar raised will go directly to the Weyburn Humane Society as a donation in Tanya’s name. This gift will help support their work caring for homeless and vulnerable animals.
If you are able, please consider donating and sharing this campaign with anyone who might want to help honour Tanya’s life. Even small contributions add up, and sharing is just as powerful as giving.
