Tanya McDonald - Acute Myeloid Leukemia Diagnosis
Donation protected

My name is Tamara (Tammi Stone) Rinehart and my mother Tanya McDonald was recently admitted to Ohio State University (OSU) Medical Center for Leukemia. On May 24th she pushed her emergency assistance button while home alone. Several moments later, my cousin found her. She had no recollection of incident and seemed to be unaware of anything happening around her. To air on the side of caution, she was taken to Soin Medical Center. While in the ER, they ordered a complete work-up of her blood. This is where the leukemia was discovered. Soin Medical Center was unable to treat her and she was transferred to OSU.
My mother has been at OSU for one week now. They have filtered her white blood cells/platelets and she has started chemo treatments in the form of a pill. They determined radiation would be too aggressive for her at this time. She is currently very tired and weak but will still smile and stick her tongue out if you call her stubborn. She is a fighter! At this time, she will remain at OSU until her chemo is complete and she is able to return home.
Prior to this incident with my mother happening, I had been on leave from work due to vasospasm of the heart and healing from nerve transplant surgery as well. I have been on leave from work for four months with no pay. I have been traveling to and from Dayton to Columbus on a daily basis to care for my mother. As many of you know, I am her only child. I want to make sure all her medical needs are met and ensure I have the ability to care for her while I am healing as well. Tanya is truly loved by all! Her friends, band children, drill team children and the like, were all considered her family. Your donations in any form will be greatly appreciated.
