Hello, my name is Amanda Nadeau. I am making this GoFundMe for my mother, Tammy Coffill.
On Saturday, June 28th 2025, an unexpected tragedy struck our family. Our dearest Tammy suffered a severe asthma attack which resulted into Tammy going into cardiac arrest multiple times. When in the ambulance she flatlined for the first time, and the paramedics administered CPR and chest compressions to resuscitate her. She was brought back after being worked on for 10 minutes in the ambulance on the way to the hospital, and when she arrived she ended up going into cardiac arrest four more times. The amazing team of Doctors at the University of Alberta Hospital were able to resuscitate her and bring her back again after working tirelessly for 25 minutes they were able to resuscitate and revive her again. In total, she was, as the Doctors described it, down for 35 minutes - meaning she was dead for that amount of time. This long downtime restricted the airflow and blood flow to her brain and body, that she needed but lacked; somewhere along the line during this Tammy also suffered a massive heart attack as well, which we have found out was caused by an 80% blockage in some vessels in her heart - which was cleared up by an Angiogram surgery, where she now has a stint and balloon in her heart.
Tammy was swiftly placed into a medically induced coma and put on life support, as well as being put on a ventilator to help her breathe, since Saturday, she is still on life support and is in a coma. While a CT scan showed no major brain damage that was cause for concern - being as the Doctors were worried she would have a brain bleed or have had a stroke, which she had neither of; we are still unsure if she has sustained any other brain damage yet. But we are remaining hopeful, positive, and praying every day for Tammy to have a proper recovery and come back to us as the wonderful woman we know and love so much. We have decided to start a GoFundMe in an effort to raise funds as her husband, Mark, is unable to work due to his own health issues as he suffered two heart attacks and was in the hospital himself for a few months; and is now on disability due to his heart attacks, and diagnoses of Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis. The unexpected hit of Mark's health, and now Tammy's health and critical condition, is a devastating blow to our family as we know it.
Anyone who knows Tammy know she is a kind, beautiful, compassionate, strong woman with a huge heart of gold and the most beautiful soul; you may also know how much of a fighter she is, a true warrior through and through. She is, as we affectionately call her, our Superwoman. Tammy has struggled with health problems in the past, having had two hernia surgeries, a bowel reconstruction surgery, and a full hysterectomy; and each time she has persevered and beaten the odds given to her before, we are positive she will do it again! Through the stellar team of Doctors and Nurses at the University of Alberta Hospital as well as constant prayer, we are hoping for the best possible outcome for our beloved Tammy.
With this fundraiser, we, her family, humble ourselves in asking for help, all funds will go towards care for Tammy, potential medical bills, medical supplies, and any other unexpected funds that may come up. Any amount is greatly appreciated and helps more than you know, we ask for you to open your hearts, whether it be keeping Tammy in your thoughts and prayers, or a donation of any amount. Our main goal is to have Tammy back at home once she is healthy, well enough, and ready; where we can give her exceptional help a good quality of life with her loved ones, and surrounding her with with love and support. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for anything and everything as it makes a difference no matter what, no matter how big or small. We are eternally grateful.
We will post updates on Tammy as much as we possibly can.
UPDATE: These last few weeks have been full of ups and downs. The MRI shows Tammy unfortunately has severe and significant brain damage all throughout her brain. She is now in a minimally conscious state. A few days ago, Doctors attempted to perform a surgery to relocate Tammy’s feeding tube to her stomach via port, and before even starting the surgery they tried to put a scope down her throat which she did not respond well too—her vitals and oxygen level dropped dangerously low and we almost lost her then, but she pulled through. She is stable and resting now though.
