PLEASE HELP MY AUNT TAMI & SERVICE DOG HOPE‘S HOME!

DISPLACED DUE TO MAIN WATER LINE BREAK SINCE AUGUST 10TH!

I am Tamara's niece, Carey. I was born after her tragic gymnastic accident and have only known her as my aunt who leads an active life with quadriplegia. As a child, I understood that my Aunt had a disability, and that her everyday life was more challenging than other physically capable adults. Her disability did not stop her from being the best Aunt a child could have. I only remember her to be mentally strong, trustworthy, and caring. Aunt Tami loved to have her nieces and nephews visit for a week at a time during our summer vacations. She considered us the children she never had. I was always excited when it was my week, because she catered our time to ensure my dreams came true. She lived in Los Angeles, where we shared some of my most memorable experiences: Ice skating, gymnastic lessons, a Ferrari dealership, and the children's museum. You gotta know that I love fast cars!Tamara is a significant family member in my life, and I am very thankful for our memories. This is why I am starting this fundraiser because of how important It is to me for her to have shelter in an accessible home.

The main line in my Aunt’s home leaked causing severe water damage. The water came up through the adjoining wall of the garage. It spread under the floors and walls throughout her home. The affected areas are the garage, laundry room, kitchen, bedroom and master bathroom. Her master bathroom had to be demolished. The water seaped into the cupboards and up through the walls causing mold. It also spread into the shower pan and under the tub. Her bedroom, kitchen and laundry room flooring was warped, and the walls and cupboards were damaged.

Tamara is unable to stay in her home due to the unlivable conditions. She has relocated to a hotel with her service dog, Hope. Her hotel room has some wheelchair accessibility but doesn't have the essential tools she uses to be functional and independant. Although, at least, she has Hope to help her with some needs. She is extremely grateful that she has her Hopie to assist her, yet it makes her sad that Hope is affected by this transition as well. Hope is adaptable because she is a service dog, yet the unfamiliar can be stressful to her. She has had anxiety due to her capability to sense Tamara's emotions. Also, Hope woke up several nights with a deep, hoarse cough. The vet diagnosed her with a bacterial infection due to the fact that they are staying at a dog-friendly hotel. She has since recovered with the help of an antibiotic. Tamara and Hope will be much more comfortable once they are able to return home.

To get them home, the repairs will need to be completed. The homeowner's insurance will only cover the repair and hotel expenses. Construction has started, but additional issues have been discovered. Termites, initial improper building materials/poor quality construction, and rebuilding disabled accessibility, have affected the amount of time and are not covered by the insurance. For this reason, I am hoping you are willing to help my aunt Tami, whom I appreciate and love so much!

Sincerely,
Carey Turner
