My name is Katelyn and I am Tammy’s oldest daughter. I’m raising funds for my mom, who is headed down to Cleveland Clinic on March 2nd to stay in the hospital to wait for her heart transplant. She is a category 2 on the transplant list which means she is critically ill and cannot leave the hospital until she gets her heart. She will also be staying there for approximately six months after her heart transplant.
As some of you already know, my mom has been through so much in the last five years. In January of 2020, she suffered her 13th heart attack which ended in her heart stopping and they couldn’t revive her. This led to her being on maximum life support. By some miracle, right as we were going to be pulling the plug, things turned around and she pulled through for us without any brain damage. After this miracle, she quickly went into surgery and got an LVAD, which is an automatic heart that she wears in a backpack. It has a cord that runs into her body and up to her heart. She has been living like this for over 5 years. She is running out of time before the severe infection around her cord either makes her septic or the device goes bad.
As you can assume, health insurance does not cover everything or anywhere near that amount. My mom not only has to keep her house paid for so she comes back from getting her transplant to a house to live in, but she also has to pay medical expenses. She will be in massive debt for the rest of her life from this, but to her, it is worth it to watch her grandbabies grow up. I want to lower the amount of debt that she will be in and help keep her house afloat while she is in the hospital and recovering.
If you cannot donate, please share. I want to get her story out there because my mom deserves to have a new heart and does not deserve to be in massive debt for the rest of her life over it. Thank you for reading this far. My sister Julia, Bentley, Aubrey, Leighton, Brodie, and I are all thankful for anything you can do to help our mom and Nana. She will also be beyond grateful.
