My cancer journey began in 2012... I was going in for what I thought was a normal mammogram (I had problems with cysts, so annual mammograms at my age was normal for me). But what happened next was completely abnormal. The technician needed to have the doctor look at my images... then I needed to get an ultra sound... then a biopsy... I started to freak out a little, but of course I thought nothing could possibly be wrong with me; I’m a young, healthy girl... Little did I know, I had a rare fast growing cancer in my left breast. After all the test results were analyzed, I was officially diagnosed with Stage 4 Inflammatory Breast Cancer with bone metastasis to my ribs, sternum, pelvis and skull. It was a shocking diagnosis for me and everyone in my life.
I immediately started with 8 months of chemotherapy to stop the spread of the cancer cells throughout my body, and then had a bilateral mastectomy. After being unable to work for a year, I finally got my health situation stabilized, thanks to hormonal medications, and I started to live my life again, not thinking about my cancer everyday. I found a new job, that brings me so much joy, I am only there part-time but I love it with all my heart.
Recently my CT scan revealed my cancer was growing again in my bones as well as new cancer was found in my liver. Now, I am back on a chemotherapy regimen of weekly infusions of Taxol. I am back to my 'buzz cut' look as I lost my hair again, but it’s a small sacrifice in order to combat this disease. The side effects of chemo make it impossible to work full-time even if I could, so paying for my treatments continue to be a struggle. I'm starting this GoFundMe to help pay for my medical expenses: medical insurance premiums, annual deductible, copays and coinsurance.
Any dollar amount, love letter, prayer, or positive vibes sent my way is deeply appreciated.
