Anyone that knows Tami loves her. She is a force for good that one cannot help but gravitate toward. As a 4th-grade teacher, she is the type you hope your kids get. She loves her students as if they are her own. Many know that Tami and her husband, Alex, have had their share of trials. Their 2 adorable girls, Hadley & Taeya, were prayed and hoped for long before they came. Through infertility, failed IVF cycles, and a devastating loss of a set of twins, Tami and Alex have stayed optimistic and strong. Hadley (4.5 years old) and Taeya (5 months) are the center of their world.

At the end of 2022, Tami followed up with her doctor about some suspicious lumps in her breast. After extensive testing, multiple scans, and several biopsies, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The good news – it has not spread to lymph nodes or other places. Tami was able to get in quickly with the specialists at Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, UT. An aggressive plan was made for chemotherapy and surgery. Tami has started chemotherapy for the next 12 weeks. After completing 12 weeks of chemotherapy, Tami will undergo a double mastectomy, and then will continue treatments for the next several years.

Tami and Alex have health insurance but will need to meet their out-of-pocket maximum, co-pays, prescriptions, and many other healthcare costs that don’t fall under insurance. The weekly chemotherapy, scans, doctor appointments, and lab work will be done through Huntsman Cancer Center in Salt Lake City. The cost of gas, food, childcare, and time away from work complicates things further.
