This is Tamie. Wife, Mother, Grandmother and lifelong educator.

On November 18, 2022, Tamie suffered a stroke that damaged the major right artery in her brain. An ambulance rushed Tamie to the hospital. She received emergency surgery to remove the clot, but this was only the beginning.

The stroke had turned into a brain bleed. An emergency surgery removed part of her skull to allow room for brain swelling. The doctors believed brain damage was severe.

Tamie remained unconscious and unresponsive on a ventilator for 4 days. Her family prepared for the worst. On Tuesday, a miracle happened. She woke up.

Within a few days, Tamie began to recover. She could breathe independently, speak, and had full cognitive awareness. Doctors were amazed at her progress, but recovery is a long road. She remained at the hospital for another week and then entered inpatient rehab for two weeks. On December 16, after nearly a month of recovery, she could finally return home.

After over a year of recovery, Tamie was thriving. She had regained use of her left side and her ability to walk.

Unfortunately, an infection in the bone set her right back at square 1. Tamie had to have a second craniotomy followed by an eight week course in antibiotics to clear the infection. A series of seizures after her surgery once again affected her left side.

Now, Tamie is at home, awaiting her final surgery. While recovery is going well, insurance has stopped covering important care she needs such as physical and occupational therapy and round-the-clock care.
