My friend (and she's a relative by marriage) Tami Lancaster in Omaha, Nebraska has a college-aged son named Ethan. He was unexpectedly transported by ambulance and admitted to the hospital in critical condition on Sunday, January 5. While he's presently off of the ventilator and talking, Ethan faces a long road to recovery.

Tami has missed (and will yet lose) wages because of Ethan's hospitalization. There will be uncovered parts of the medical bills and copays for treatment, and prescriptions. The family will likely eat more convenient or medically necessary meals that cost more than the usual grocery budget. Trips to the hospital, preparations to Ethan's home bedroom, extra transportation will all stress the family's finances.

And Ethan has bills of his own- a car payment and insurance that could go unpaid as he recovers, without our help.
