Earlier this year, our kind and loving Mother, Tami Doner, was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as ALS. It is a devastating diagnosis that causes as much distress emotionally as it does physically. She is only 63.
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that results in a loss of muscle control throughout the body. Ultimately people with ALS lose control of muscles that facilitate eating, speaking, moving and finally breathing. It is a brutal disease, which most commonly takes a person's life within a few years.
One year ago our Mom was completely healthy, keeping as busy as ever working as a barista and enjoying time with her friends and family. Today, while she is still trying to stay active, she is often fatigued and unable to get as much done as before. The disease is taking its toll as she continues to try to live a happy life, even with the ever-looming symptoms of ALS.
My sister and I have both moved away from Oregon. I'm now living abroad and she is in another state. We are both planning to return and stay with our Mom for extended periods to help out around the house and assist her in any way that we can. That said, she needs help now and in times when we are unable to be there. That is why we are starting this GoFundMe for her. We want to be able to provide help for her, in the form of in-home care and assistance, transportation services to and from doctor appointments, medical services and treatment.
Please consider supporting us as we navigate this difficult time in our lives. Tami is an amazing mother who has always done everything she can for her children, friends and family. She is the absolute sweetest a person can be and does not deserve to go through this alone. Please show support by making a contribution to this GoFundMe. Additionally, if you live in the area please consider offering your help in any way possible.
We love our Mother so much and want her to be taken care of, just as she has always taken care of us and for her to live through this time with as little stress or pain as possible.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. We are deeply thankful to all of you who are able to make a contribution or offer your help.
