Medical and Living Expenses

Hi, I'm Tamela.

Thanks for clicking on my fundraiser.

My story is long, I will shorten what I can...

- In 2013, I found out I had a dibilating leg disorder called "Lipedema".

Lipedema or lipoedema (European spelling) is an incurable, chronically progressive affliction that occurs almost exclusively in women. It causes a symmetrical accumulation of fat in the subcutaneous tissue that disproportionately affects the lower limbs from buttocks to ankles.

- I had insurance, at that time, I was able to get the proper physical therapy, compression and support to help me walk and regain mobility.

- I was laid off, and lost my medical insurance, within a month after my last physical therapy appointment.

- Five years, and a massive fall in my front yard (which has caused a back injury) later, my ability to walk is now at 30%.

- I am in a wheelchair the majority of the time.

- I deal with a massive amount of chronic pain and fatigue, my legs are very noticeably worse.

- I have now fallen eight times since May.  Each fall injures me, physically, even more.

- I go to a local non-profit community health clinic for my primary needs, however, they cannot offer speciality treatment for my disease.

_______
- I have now been denied twice for disability assistance (and I do have a lawyer now helping me.) This process has already taken over a year - but, unfortunately, there is no solid cut off point.

- I have been told by DDS (disability determination services) that I CANNOT work at a job, while filing a claim for disability (yes, I know what the web and/or that other people in the past have been able to - apparently, 'its different now'. According to two different workers I have talked to.)

- Because I do not have a job, I cannot afford ObamaCare.

- Tennessee did not approve the umbrella where Medicaid/Medicare SHOULD take over for people in my shoes.

- You can only get Medicaid/Medicare/TennCare assistance in my state, if you are pregnant or terminal. And I am neither.

- At this point, I have been very blessed and lucky to have friends and family who have helped me a little here, a little there, financially.

- Today (01/24/18), I found out that my clinic was not able to secure funding for free prescriptions any longer.

- Figuring up my medical costs, I will now have to pay $200 a month for my doctor visits and medicines.

(This is NOT including basic survival bills like electric/water/rent, which my mother and I are already two months behind on- its those, PLUS $200.)

- Without a job nor income - I have $.27 cents to my name as I am typing this.

To say that I am discouraged would be an understatement...

Doing this and exposing my vurnabilites for the world to see is not easy.

But I do feel as though I have no other option than to reach out and see if I can find some help.

If you can spare one dollar, that one dollar is more than I had before you.. If you cannot spare that one dollar.....-

Thank you for reading my fundraiser, regardless.  Keep fighting the good fight.
