Tameka is a 37 year old single mother of three (a 20 year old in college, a 6 year old and a 3 year old).  Tameka relocated to Texas in May of 2015 and gained employment and was well on her way to a productive life transition.  On November 19, 2015, Tameka went to the emergency room after suffering from headaches she had been experiencing and became unbearable.  She was diagnosed with a sinus infection and sent home with prescriptions.  On November 22, 2015, after receiving no relief, Tameka returned to the emergency room and a CAT scan was ordered; a large mass was discovered.  On the 25th of November a biopsy was performed.  On November 28, 2015, Tameka suffered a light stroke which subsequently affected her mobility on her left side and her memory.  On December 6, 2015, Tameka was taken in for surgery to clean out her nasal cavity where the fungus grew and she began treatment for the portion of fungus that had grown on the outside of her brain and she was able to avoid a second more invasive brain surgery.  During her follow up after the surgery, it was discovered that Tameka had a staph infection that was hidden by the initial fungus.  Tameka remained in ICU and eventually moved to NICU where she remained until December 23rd, when she was then transferred to a rehabilitative facility to continue her medical treatment and to receive physical, occupational and speech therapy.  Tameka’s final diagnosis was an invasive sinus fungal infection and due to its rarity her condition is being considered for inclusion in medical journals for further studies.  Tameka has come a long way but has a long way to go.  She requires long term nursing and therapy services.  Currently Tameka is home being cared for by her mother who is self-employed and the expenses associated with Tameka’s care are well beyond her financial capabilities.  Due to Tameka’s relocation, her medical insurance is tied up with red tape and is temporarily in suspension.  The effort to obtain SSI is in progress but as you know can be a long process.  In the meantime, she is in need of medication and the family is in need of financial assistance to help with her medicines, sitters, shelter and all cost associated with providing her care as she recovers.  We appreciate all the help we can get and no amount is too small.  From the bottom of our hearts we thank you so much for your thoughts, prayers and donations.
