Tameka Breathe Again

Hello! I'm Tameka Chauka. I’m 40 years young, wife to my wonderful and very supportive husband, Ajamu of 14 years and mom to our beautiful 8 year old daughter, Malia. In addition, I am a small business owner of Fit To Be Whole, where being fit in EVERY area of life is our motto, physically, spiritually and financially. Being fit in each one of those areas will make you "Whole" as a person. I strive to be whole daily which is my ultimate goal throughout this process.

For many years, I have been coping and living with Lupus. Lupus has tremendously and drastically affected my day to day living. It has caused me to have pulmonary hypertension, also known as PAH. In addition to PAH, I also have hypothyroidism. For the past seventeen years, I have not only been a lupus fighter, but also a lupus survivor!

It wasn't until recently that my successful road to recovery and battle with Lupus drastically derailed. During the month of December 2021, I unknowingly became exposed to someone who previously tested positive for Covid 19. The aftermath of being exposed to Covid 19, while battling and living with Lupus, ultimately led to a major medical setback. The exposure to Covid 19 completely interfered and destroyed the road to recovery my lungs had once endured and achieved. My exposure and contraction of Covid 19 was not only devastating, but also became a frustrating, life altering medical setback. Due to the exposure of Covid 19 and my ongoing battle with Lupus, I endured excessive lung damage, making it extremely difficult to breathe the majority of the time. As a result, I am now required to be on oxygen 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 

Dealing with Lupus, PAH, Hypothyroidism and now the damage to my lungs has become a huge financial burden as I struggle to support myself and my loving family.

This long, endless

and daunting process is filled with numerous doctor appointments, medical procedures, and tests. I have been strongly advised by my doctor that the time is NOW. I must now proceed to the next level of having a double lung transplant. The transplant will drastically extend my life expectancy and improve my quality of life.  

As my family and I prepare for this next level of life changing and altering medical procedures; numerous and unforeseen medical expenses will incur. Nevertheless, these medical exams, performance tests, and scans are very pertinent, necessary and a major requirement; before, during, and after my double lung transplant surgery.

As I prepare to begin my long road to recovery pre - and post double lung transplant surgery, I would like to place all of my attention and focus on the healing and recovery process. Being able to heal and recover without the stress of what a major financial hardship setback can cause is very crucial and can potentially have the ability to impact my physical, mental, and emotional healing.

Prayers are also appreciated! I am a woman of God and Jesus is the reason I have come this far. I look forward to overcoming this trial so that I can trade this story for his glory and impact the lives of others with his love.

In conclusion, any and all financial help would be greatly appreciated as medical expenses will occur both pre - and post surgery. I appreciate any financial assistance you are able to provide so my family and I can focus on the journey to recovery ahead, making this very necessary medical procedure a lot less stressful by minimizing the financial strain and burden that comes with the surgery and recovery that lies ahead of us.
