Hello Everyone!
I am seeking funding to attend the world renowned Tamarind Institute of Lithography’s Printer Training Program located in Albuquerque, New Mexico in August 2019.
After completing my undergraduate degree in 2012, I lost touch with Lithography. I devoted my life to art education, and I didn’t realize how much I missed the process until I re-encountered it while pursuing my Master’s degree at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 2016. I took a Lithography class during my first semester at PAFA and have not stopped creating lithographs since. My immersion in PAFA’s print shop reignited my passion and overwhelming love of Lithography. I was reminded of my long forgotten and unpursued dreams of attending Tamarind. The education and opportunities I received at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts transformed my dreams of going to Tamarind into my potential reality.
In February 2019 I was one of eight people accepted into the prestigious Printer Training Program. It feels surreal to see one of my lifelong professional goals come to fruition. Tamarind’s Printer Training Program will further my printmaking practice and expand my knowledge of the process and tradition that I hold so dear. I aim to have the experience, dexterity, and wisdom needed to work collaboratively in a fine art print shop. Tamarind will equip me with the masterful artistry necessary to successfully transition into the fine art print world.
GoFundMe would allow me this once in a lifetime opportunity to continue my education at an institute that is designed specifically for Lithographers. With support from you and fundraising I can make the move from Philadelphia to Albuquerque, obtain housing, pay tuition, and have the extra funds required to sustain myself for the duration of this 10 month program.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story, words cannot express my appreciation and gratitude!
Best,
Alyssa
A Little about Tamarind's Program:
The Tamarind Institute of Lithography’s two-part Printer Training Program is designed for students who wish to pursue careers as fine art collaborative printers. This intensive, full-time program concentrates first on strengthening and refining the students' technical skills, then on the application of those skills to collaborative projects. A maximum of eight students are accepted world wide. Tamarind is the only formal training program of it’s kind for professional fine art collaborative printers. The program begins in August and ends the following May. Students are in the print shop 70-80 hours per week learning new skills and working on collaborative projects for the entirety of the program. Students who have successfully completed the Printer Training Program may apply for admission to the Master Printer Apprentice Training Program, a year-long apprenticeship in Tamarind's professional workshop. A limited number, typically one or two student printers, are selected to return for an additional year of training in Tamarind's professional workshop. Apprentice printers collaborate with and print editions for visiting artists, participate in shop management, and conduct an extensive research project, under the supervision of the master printer and workshop manager.
