We write this with a very heavy heart! Our beloved shop in The Barlow is completely under water. It is unknown at this point what amount of damage has been done, however with everything under water including all inventory, jewelry, shoes, furniture, computers and custom art work, we know this will be utterly devastating to our business.
Many Barlow businesses including ours could not afford flood insurance due to it being in a flood zone, however it was guaranteed by the landlords that the flood gates and pumps would ensure that all businesses would be protected and safe! An email from our landlords went out on Tuesday assuring us that the flood gates would be deployed. They had the ability to deploy a 10 ft flood gate. They deployed only a 4 foot gate!!! The water began flooding into our shop so quickly, we were unable to save or do much! We now have lost everything, including a new shipment of inventory for two shops and our online site. It's all under water.
At this point, we will need some help from our community to stay open, as there will be immediate costs to clean and repair, and we will need restock the inventory we lost, just to stay in business. And with the store being closed indefinitely and bills holding steady, any support will help us stay afloat (no pun intended). As most know, this is a family owned business with a small but wonderful and devoted staff! The store is our livelihood.
We are grateful to know that everyone in the Barlow is safe and unharmed, and that is the most important thing beyond anything else! Our community is strong and supportive and we feel so lucky to be a part of it!
We thank you for your amazing support throughout the last 5 1/2 years we have been in business and hope to share some good news about when we will open the doors to our Sebastopol shop again!
Thank you again for being amazing customers and friends and supporters of Tamarind. We can never thank you enough.
