It is with a heavy heart that I write this today. I come from a proud family; we do not ask for help unless it is a dire situation. Today, whether you know me and my family, or whether you do not. We are asking for your help.

If you know my mom, Tama Withrow, you may know she has been fighting multiple illnesses/diseases for well over a decade. She was diagnosed with Pancreatic Divisum 16 years ago. This is a condition that affects anywhere from 4%-14% of the population. Most patients with this condition are asymptomatic, however, a smaller portion of patients develop digestion and gastrointestinal problems. 25-38% of the patients with this disease develop recurrent pancreatitis which further progresses to chronic pancreatitis. My mom fell into the smaller portion with many symptoms.

Within the last couple of years, her condition has gotten worse and worse. She was forced to leave her nursing position at Riverview Hospital after over 20 years of service to our community. Shortly after going on disability, she had to be placed in hospice care. Just within the last couple of months her condition has again progressed tremendously. She is currently suffering from chronic pancreatitis. The chronic pancreatitis is causing multiple organ failure, the onset of dementia, loss of balance, loss of hand control, and a host of other symptoms. She has battled this condition for years, but it appears she is nearing the end of her fight.

Although we have been blessed with great health insurance, it was not always enough. The medical bills kept mounting. Our family is scared and in need of your help. Tama has worked hard over the years as a nurse and built her career on a love for every human. Now, she needs all the love and support she can get. Any money donated will go towards her medical expenses, the cost of getting her at home care, and inevitably her final expenses. With the progression of her condition, Tama now needs 24/7 supervision. This is a task that we have tried to accomplish as a family, but it is simply not possible. The bills need to be paid, Mike, her husband must go to work. My sister and I must take care of her grandchildren and work. She is an extreme fall risk. One of our biggest fears is finally being able to go check on her, only to find she has fallen with no idea how long she has been there.

Our family is blessed to have her and blessed for any help we may receive. For 56 years my mother has brought joy and happiness into this world at every turn. She is an amazing mother, wife, nurse, and frankly, just an amazing human being. We appreciate anything you can donate from the bottom of our hearts.
