TALK TO ME !!!!
That was my dear Dear Friend Matt Villafane's greeting at the local baseball field, Miami International Airport where he worked as a mechanic or when he would answer the phone. Matt was a Mechanic for American Airlines and volunteer coach for a local south florida travel baseball team. (The Panama Mutiny). Up until January 18, 2016, Matt Villlafane was a happy member of our Community. Matt would help anyone that needed a lending hand. Matt was a die hard football fan and baseball fanatatic.
THE MATT SUPERBOWL EVENT
Matt would would organize every year a community SuperBow Party for his neighboorhood and close friends. He never charged anyone for attending and invited as many as 200 guests. He would give away door prizes that he had gathered throughout the year.
The event would start on Fridays with a Poker Tournamnet, followed by a Domino Tournamnet on Saturdays and would culminate on Sunday with the big game. This tradition went on for approximately 20 years.
THE MATT BAT
Matt would also donate a personalized full size Louisville Slugger bats with the youth player's name to any player from his Travel Team that would hit a homerun in any given season! In one event he even purchased 11 bats, as the Panama Mutiny had 11 players with a homerun !
THE STROKE
On January 18, 2016 , Matt's life changed forever. While working on a project at his dad's home, he suffered a heart attack. He was rushed to the hospital and while at the hospital, he suffered a stroke. Matt was completely paralyzed from the neck down and on a ventilator.
Matt's life, along with his wife' and children changed overnight. He spent five months in intensive care. He is paralized on his rights side and needs to be fed thru a tube, he can't speak or communicate with others and has to be taken care of 24 hours per day. In order to help in his care, his wife, Xiomara, was forced to miss work with no paid and while Matt received temporary disability benefits from American Airlines, that was only for a few weeks.
The Villafane's life has changed forever, it is now filled with sacrifices and changes to accomodate Matt's new challenges, including turning the living room into a substitue hospital room as Matt requires 24 hour per day assistance, with every aspect of his daily functions including eating, drinking, bathing, bladder and bowel control, brushing teeth, changing clothes and even changing his diapers... for the rest of his life.
We thank all those friends and family members that have been assisting Matt and his family during these difficult times and ask you not to forget him. Matt needs us now more than ever.
Matt and his family will be humbly grateful for any help you may provide during this heartbreaking, life changing event. Thank you also for all of your prayers! All funds will be exclusively used for Matt's uncovered medical supplies.
